IPTAR offers reduced-fee psychoeducational and neuropsychological testing for individuals aged 6 through adult. These assessments include tests of intelligence, cognitive functioning, personality, academic functioning, and executive functioning. The results of these evaluations can help clarify diagnoses related to a range of learning and psychological concerns and provide recommendations for the types of interventions or treatments that may be effective to address needs at home, work, or school.

Assessments are done by Clinical Psychology Interns and Externs, on site at IPTAR’s Clinical Center on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.  These advanced Doctoral Candidates are supervised by Senior Psychologists who are experts with decades of experience conducting and supervising testing.

Before any assessment, individuals (or a child’s parents) come for an initial consultation to collect a full history, discuss the issues to be examined, and confirm that testing at IPTAR is appropriate. If IPTAR cannot meet your needs, we can assist with finding an appropriate referral.

Individuals are given tests to assess academic and reasoning skills, intellectual abilities, memory, attention, and executive functioning. Testing can take anywhere from 8-12 hours, depending on the person’s age and the referral question. Testing is scheduled over the course of at least 3-4 sessions, although sometimes children need more sessions that are shorter. We do our best to accommodate schedules, but some sessions may need to take place during the day.

A detailed report will be ready within 3 months after the last testing session, at which time a feedback session with you or the child’s parents will be scheduled. In addition to scores that show where an individual functions relative to others their age and/or grade level, the report will make specific, individualized recommendations to help support academic, occupational, and emotional functioning at school, work, and home.
