    IPTAR – Structure and Administration

The Institute of Psychoanalytic Training and Research (IPTAR) is a professional association of psychoanalysts formed to promote the advancement of psychoanalysis as a practice and a profession. IPTAR provides clinical services to the community through it’s consultation center, offers professional training programs in psychoanalysis and child psychotherapy to aspiring professionals, promotes and supports psychoanalytic research in areas critical to professional concerns, and provides scientific and clinical programs for the professional development of it’s members.

IPTAR is governed  by a Board of Directors composed of elected officers and other representatives of the IPTAR community and programs. The Board of Directors is responsible for the organization and all it’s activities. The Board delegates certain administrative responsibilities for education, clinical services, and research activities to three administrative bodies. Each of these bodies is appointed by the President and the Board of Directors.

The Board of Administrators of the IPTAR training Institute, also referred to as the Institute Board, is charged with administrating the training program in Adult Psychoanalysis. This is the core training program established by IPTAR at it’s inception in 1960. Graduates of this training program are eligible for membership in IPTAR.

The IPTAR Clinical Center (ICC) is administered by the ICC Board of Administrators. The ICC was formed in 1993 to provide affordable high quality mental health services  to the community. The ICC offers psychotherapy services at our East and West side offices and in a number of school settings.

The Norbert Freedman Center for Psychoanalytic Research is the research arm of IPTAR. The Center, established in 2012 to memorialize and celebrate the life and work of Norbert Freedman, is administered by the Board of Administrators of the Freedman Center, also referred to as the Research Board.
